Searching – 50′s SMALL DOLL with BROWN CIGAR CURLS Wearing WHITE DRESS
I’m looking for a 50′s doll about 6 inches tall I had as a child. She had brown cigar curls and wore a white dress. I can’t remember her name, but I think it had Lee in part of her name, maybe Terry Lee?
She was the last doll I got as a child. I am sixty six now, and I think I was twelve.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Searching – 50′s Large LAMBSKIN Standing LAMB Glass Eyes Not Steiff
Margot is still looking for this lamb.
When I was a small child in the mid-late 50′s I received a stuffed lamb. The sheep I lost was stuffed with straw and was VERY realistic. The head for example had almost a taxidermy level of realism. The coat was actually real lamb’s skin with a longish, curly, silky look/feel ; just like an woman’s winter coat. The lamb measured approximately 2′ x 3′ and made a “baa” sound when turned upside down. It was made about 50 years ago. The coat on the lamb on eBay is not or does not look like the real thing. I think it might have come from Germany.
I know it is not a Steiff, because I collect Steiff. I don’t have any pictures. It was not plushy…it was stiff stuffing, but it was not like a Steiff either…it was all real lambskin..no wool. It was not the size of an old Steiff. It was bigger than the small ones and not as big as the newer big ones. As I recall it was about 24″ x 24″ standing…it was not jointed per se, with beautiful green glass eyes. It was a wonderful thing.
Years later my niece’s dog chewed it up. I have been looking ever since for another one. I have tried eBay and Google. Perhaps someone here knows of one.
Thanks,
Margot

FOUND – 50′s GUND SLUMBER ZIPPER CAT with KITTENS
Carrie is still looking for a similar cat and kittens.
I’m looking for a 50′s Gund Slumber Zipper Cat, which came with a zipper along its back. The Mama cat is sleeping, and her zippered back came with three 3 inch long kittens inside her “pouch”. She’s approximately 15 inches long.
While on a cross-country road trip during the early 60′s, my family stayed at one of many motels. After checking out one morning and driving many miles by the afternoon, my sister–about 6 at the time–realized she could not find her favorite toy, this Gund Slumber Zipper Cat with a pouch containing 3 kittens. She had evidently left it behind at the motel.
My parents called and inquired about it, but the managers said they could not find it. My sister was absolutely inconsolable–she loved that cat, and now it was gone.
As an adult, I have tried without success to find another Gund Slumber Zipper Cat to give to my sister. I know it would still mean a lot to her even after all these years. I found a listing on eBay recently, but I was too late to bid.
If anyone has information about this toy, or has one to sell, I hope they will contact me about it.
Thanks for your time,
Philip

Searching – 50′s? 60′s? SMALL BROWN CORDUROY DOG Wearing BROWN PLAID HAT
Hi, I am hoping someone can help me. I’m looking for a small brown corduroy dog, about 6-8 inches or so, that was wearing a hat that was sort of floppy and was more of a tartan pattern with a yellowish brownish and a red brownish color to it. This was my best friend’s childhood lovie, and he was born in 1959, so the toy has to be from the late 50’s or early 60’s, and of course it got thrown away when he got older.
He recently talked to his brother, who still has HIS lovie from around the same time ( a stuffed bear), and now he has been missing his dog.
I was trying to get it for his birthday last year and could not find anything. I was hoping to find something for this year!
I have no other information than that, but am hoping someone might remember more!
Thanks in advance!
Julia

Searching – 50′s? 60′s? BROWN BEAR Wearing RED & WHITE STRIPED PJ’s & STOCKING CAP & Holding a LIGHTED CANDLE
I am looking for a bear I had during the late 50′s or early 60′s. He was brown and wearing red and white striped pj’s with a matching sleep cap. As for size, I would estimate about 15″ from foot to the top of his head. The hat was the old fashioned sleep cap style. He was NOT jointed, and he did not sit up well unless propped up. He was holding a hard plastic candle that lit up with a battery. He may have been advertising for a motel chain, but I’m not sure.
We were a military family and moved so often that I never went to the same school for more than 1 year. He was lost somewhere along the way. But he sure was a comfort to me. I would love to find a similar one.
Thank you so much for any and all assistance.
Beth

Searching – 50′s? 60′s? Dollcraft BROWN REAL? FUR FLOPPY DOG
Thanks to one of our Fabulous Finders, we now know that this is a Dollcraft dog from the 50′s or 60′s.
I am looking for a plush dog, maybe named Floppy. He is brown and has ears and tail made from, I think, real fur. He would have been made in the 70′s. He is about 12 inches long with a pom pom type nose and plastic eyes. You will see the white fur on his tail, ears, and patch on his head that my grandmother “fixed”. He feels like he’s filled with crushed something like nutshells.
He was my sister’s favorite stuffed animal, and the fur on his ears and tail wore off. My grandmother “fixed” him while we were young with white fleece! He looked horrible. I want her to have a “new” one, so she can remember him as he was, and fondly remember our grandmother for doing her best to make it all better.
I am so grateful for any help finding another one. Johanna’s 35th birthday is in June, and I thought this would be a wonderful surprise!!
Thanks,
Jessica

Searching – 50′s ELMER?? RUBBERY FACE ELEPHANT with VELVET? BODY
I have been trying to find out the manufacturer of an elephant plush toy for years now, with no results.
I remember the day I got him around 1952. I was in the stroller in Eaton’s department store in Montreal, Quebec, when I saw him. I stood up in my stroller while my mother was talking with someone and grabbed him. I wouldn’t let him go, and my mother ended up buying him for me, and he has been with me and our family ever since. I was about 2 years old then, and I am 59 now, so he has been well used over the years, as you can see.
I am hoping to have this restored and knowing more about its origins will help me in having it restored properly. It has come to a point where he is falling apart and needs to be complete redone, but I have not been able to find any information on him, or anyone that would know how to restore him.
The face is some sort of a rubber material, and the body looks like a velvet on a canvas base. It was very popular in the Montreal region in the early 1950′s. At the time there was a big safety campaign going on called Elmer the safety elephant, and I am not sure if he was made to go along with this.
The first photo shows his face which might be a rubbery type substance, as it is fairly rigid and also soft, but it doesn’t smell like rubber. As you can see, his face has received quite a bit of damage. Unfortunately, I was responsible for the damage, as I chewed on him when I was a lot younger!!!
You can see a velvet type fur, which has been worn off the entire body, except for this little bit on the back side.
One lady in California said he might have been made by Gund. I have been looking on eBay for about 1 year at all the postings for Gund, stuffed elephants, etc., and have not see anything like him. I have also done many searches on Google, but have not been able to find anything about him.
Any information that you could give me on him would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquiry and looking at all my information.
May the spirit of Christmas be with you at this special time of the year.

FOUND INFORMATION – 50′s 60′s GEORGE GIRAFFE PILLOW ANIMAL
Thanks to Holly, we now know that this is George the Giraffe, from the 50′s or 60′s. He was sold as a fabric panel pattern, to be cut out, sewn, and stuffed.
I was flea marketing in Indiana with my parents back in September, and I ran across a box of dingy, vintage stuffed animals. I was thrilled, as I love vintage plush!!
The one I especially liked was a bashful-looking giraffe pillow/stuffed animal. He reminded me of a character out of “Raggedy Ann” for some reason, but he was extremely dingy and full of holes!
So I bought him, took him home and gave him a good sink bath, patched him up, and now he looks fresh as a daisy! I even put little bows on his ears and tail! I decided to name him Burdorf (like the furniture store LOL). I know, I know, I love stuffed animals too much LOL!
Anyway, what I was wondering is, where do you suppose Burdorf came from? To look at him, you’d think he was sewn from some kind of pattern. At least that’s what I think. I’d extrapolate that he dates back to the seventies at the very latest. He looks rather cartoonish, but I don’t think he was from a TV show/movie or anything. And he’s not a Raggedy Ann character, even though he reminded me of one (I’m probably the only teenager who’s into Raggedy Ann LOL!). But I was wondering what you thought about it!
Thanks,
Peggy

DISCONTINUED – 50′s Eden? PINK BUNTING Non Musical BLOND DOLL
Pat is looking for a doll that is similar to this photo, but hers was not curled up and her eyes looked straight ahead.
Hi Rosemary,
Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to offer as I search for a doll I was given about 1953 from my grandparents in Texas. My childhood was very unstable, and I suspect that I was given this to comfort me after I had to leave my beloved grandparents. This was one of three dolls I ever owned. My baby was long ago sold in a garage sale or thrown away by a caregiver.
I would love to purchase a replacement, or just have a photo, even though I’m now a 60 year old grandmother.
• Plush Doll
• May have been an Eden
• Hard plastic faced
• Dressed in soft pink bunting (not terry and not chenille)
• Could have had short, yellow, yarn bangs but those may have been painted on
• Not musicalThank you so much for your help.
Regards,
Pat

Searching – IDEAL DOLL with FLIRTY Eyes & CRYER
I evidently gave away my beloved old Ideal Flirty Eyed Doll with cryer to the Hermiston Oregon Goodwill. She was about 20 inches long, cloth body, vinyl head, arms, legs, and was probably made in the 1950′s. Her eyes moved side to side and opened and closed, and she had rooted realistic eyelashes. She looked like she was wearing make up, which to me says before 1960′s, but being vinyl she couldn’t be too old.
We were changing the floors in my kids’ room, and I had a box to go to Good Will and a box to put back in their room. My youngest daughter used to play with this doll, so it often was in her toy box.
When we finally got everything back inside I noticed she was missing. I thought there was no way I accidentally gave her away, but months later, after searching through the house and garage, she never turned up. We must have put her in the wrong box.
I got the doll when I was a small child at a garage sale.
I ran into your site accidentally, and thought it would be a source to help find it again. I placed an ad in the local ad paper, but no one ever responded to it.
Take care,
Leah

No Longer Searching – 50′s? 60′s? PINK RABBIT with a HARD PINK FACE
Hi! My Mom used to have a little yellow bunny with a hard pink face that she used to go to sleep with when she was a little girl. So the bunny would be at least 50 yrs old.
My mom grew up with nothing, and my family has been going through a lot of hard time. A year ago we almost lost both my Mom and my Dad. My mom has suffered a horrible condition and is still over a year later fighting it.
My mom loved this bunny, but her father seems to have thrown it away. I am guessing it is small to medium in size, as she used to put it between her knees to hide it from her dad.
Just recently, with my father in the hospital again, she had mentioned the bunny to me, and I thought that I would try to find one. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of it. I was hoping to maybe get it for her for Mother’s day. Any help would be great!!!
Thanks! God’s blessing!!!

Searching – 50′s POLKA DOT White ELEPHANT Wearing RED OVERALLS
In the 1950′s my husband had a polka dot stuffed elephant wearing red corduroy overalls. I know it was white cloth with polka dots on it. He said he chewed on its snout. I think it had black button eyes.
I want to find him one for his birthday.

Searching – 50′s WINDUP Plush LION – HEAD & TAIL TURNED
I am looking for a small mechanical plush lion. This was a toy given to me in the mid fifties by a little boy I played with as a child. Our house burned down many years ago, and I forgot all about it.
Recently I remembered the little boy, who was a few years younger and liked me so much he bought me a toy for Christmas. You wound it up with a key, and it wagged its tail and moved its head. It was about 6-8 inches long if I remember correctly.
I decided that I would like to honor that first friendship by finding that same toy if possible.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Searching – 50′s DAKIN? Green Eyed TIGER Stuffed with Cotton & Straw
I’m trying to find a stuffed tiger, manufactured around 1958, by DAKIN, I think. It had green and black eyes and was stuffed with cotton and straw. It had a sewn nose that was thread, and it was about 9-11 inches long.
I was 2 years old and my uncle George Schaffer gave me 2 toys for Christmas. One was Tigey, and one was a big red ball. My mother and father who are now both deceased, said I went into Uncle George’s house and picked up the wrapped gift and said, “I know what this is – its a big red ball!” and that when I opened Tigey I was in love.
I kept that tiger as my most prized possession for over 30 years, even taking it with me to college. I adored it. You see I was being abused as a child from age 3 1/2 and Tigey was my only friend. I know this sounds silly to still be so in love with a stuffed animal, but it was so much more. It was a symbol that someone loved me.
When I lost him in an abusive relationship. I also lost all my pictures of me as a child, my kids and my parents and grandparents.
Thanks so much for listening.
