Searching – 70’s Knickerbocker? YELLOW CHICK-A-DEE CHICKEN Wearing a YELLOW? SHIRT?
Thanks to one of our Fabulous Finders, we suspect this is a recalled Knickerbocker chick.
I had this little stuffed chicken roughly 20 to 25 years ago. It has a beak and its shirt is possibly yellow. I believe my mother got it for me in 1976 roughly, and I don’t know where. The words on its chest were written like this:
Chick
-A-
Dee
I don’t quite remember if the dashes were there or not, but I am thinking they were.It was my favorite stuffed animal from the time I was roughly 2 or 3 until I was about 15. I was a very sick little boy for the longest time, through elementary school until I was in 8th or 9th grade. I have an intestinal problem that was really bad until I got into high school and and college, and anytime I went into the hospital, which was every year for roughly a week to a month at times, I always took it with me. It was one thing that I depended on, and that I could always love and cherish. It consoled me when I could not be with mom, when she was at work. I just really miss it.
If I could just get the sewing pattern, I would be utmost happy for just that. Or even just a web address that would direct me to where I could get the information from. I am also sorry to say that I don’t have a picture of it, either.
Thank you for your time and patience,
Chris

I haven’t found one, but I did find several articles about a toy sounding very similar made in 1978 called Chick-A-Dee easter chick. It was pulled from shelves and recalled because the lettering on the shirt contained lead…made by Knickerbocker company. Could be hard to find because of the recall.

I don’t know if you will get this email, because i haven’t used this site before to send messages. I would simply like to say thank you very much for the info about the knickerbocker info. It will hopefully give me the lead that i need to get me a new one or just get the sewing pattern so that i can make it for myself. Again i very much appreciate your info. Take care. Chris.

I have one. Email me if you are interested and i can send you a picture. It is about 12 in tall, a yellow stuffed chick with a blue shirt that reads “Chick-a-Dee” in yellow letters. It was found in a storage unit on the Mississippi gulf coast following hurricane katrina. It is very well preserved considering it was likely from the 70’s.
