Searching – 60s Yellow Windup Lion Talking/Musical?
I am looking for a stuffed pastel yellow lion that was an infant’s toy. The ears, feet, and the eyelashes are blue. There was a wind up box in the back, but mine was removed and sewn up. I don’t know the brand. It was given to me used in about 1972. It was about 12 inches tall. It lays flat, with arms out to the side and legs straight down.
When I was 6 years old, having been raised by my mother (who had me at 16) to that point, my mother called my father and told him she couldn’t take care of me any longer, and that she wanted to give him full custody. She was on her second husband, who had just left her and my 9 month old baby sister. My father agreed to this, however, he was too busy with work to care for me, so he had my paternal grandparents take care of me.
I was unaware of any of this until I got to my grandparents, and later that weekend (I went to visit them on weekends occasionally) my grandmother broke the news to me that I wouldn’t be going home! I was obviously devastated! I had gone with just an overnight bag. None of my toys were with me.
The first stuffed animal/toy that I received after this was this lion. Needless to say it was an extreme comfort to me and very special. I think my grandmother’s dear friend Mrs. Botzie got it for me at a garage sale! I loved that lion, even taking photos of it with my dog when I got a camera a few years later. Years later I let my own daughter play with my lion. When we moved out of state it was lost somehow. It still breaks my heart. At least I have a photo. Thanks for doing what you can!
Sincerely,
Marie

I did a ‘Google Search’ for your lion and found a photo of your exact one listed under VINTAGE KNICKERBOCKER – if you GOOGLE SEARCH Images with”knickerbocker lion wind up 1960’s” you will see the photo in the second row second to last photo. Unfortunately it is an expired ebay listing but knowing the brand may help you in your search. Best of luck.

Just did a test on that search and it showed up further down the page around the fourth row then so you may have to have a look around the page to find it. ๐

Trying to make this easier for everyone if you Google Images – KNICKERBOCKER LION 1960’S WINDUP PLUSH – you should see it in the middle of the top line of images.
Thank you Brenda, I see it, but it isn’t the same one. Maybe it is a Knickerbocker, but I’m not sure of it. The nose is different on the one you found, it has a round tip nose, not the line down the middle. Anyway, I’ll keep looking!
