FOUND – BAH KOO Stuffed Animal
We have a mailing list of people looking for this strange Bah Koo creature.
I had many favorite toys as a child, but my brother had only a select few. The one we remember most of all was “Bah Koo,” a hybrid of a few different animals. Based on an Asian folk tale, Bah Koo chases away bad dreams. I remember my brother sleeping with him every night and carrying him around, upside down, by his tail.
Unfortunately, when my brother went into the Navy, he cleaned his room rather hastily, and we’re afraid he may have inadvertently disposed of poor Bah Koo, or as he liked to call him, “Kooie.”
He was originally sold in 1987, as a box set with the book “Bah Koo- Chaser of Bad Dreams: A Bedtime Story,” written by Robert Rhodes and illustrated by Gary Patterson.
It’s not impossible to find the book these days, but after countless months of searching, I have yet to find the plush toy.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Megan
I copied this from Amazon, where they are selling the book:
From Publishers Weekly
Based on a creature from Japanese mythology that destroys the bad dreams of children, Bah Koo has the snout of an elephant, the tail of a lion and the ears of a cow.

Thanks!!
I currently have 2 Bah-Koos, I am willing to part with the “newer” looking one. He is in perfect condition. I also own a pink Bah-Koo which I won from a claw machine game about 10 years ago. Pretty weird, huh?

Hello, my name is Gina, I've been trying to find Bah Koo for years! He was one of my favorite toys growing up and I will never forget his story. My mom and Dad found him at a garage sale when I was 3 (born in 1987) so he was fairly new when I got him. I'd like to find one in good condition, but really I'll take whatever I can get. I want to be able to pass him on to my children. If anyone can help, reach me at flairlevy AT bellsouth DOT net or flair_187 AT yahoo DOT com
This would mean the world to me! Thank you,
Gina
Hi Everyone-
I also had Bah Koo as a kid, and he went everywhere with me. Somewhere around middle school, I lost him. I desperately want to buy one, and I found one- for $200 on eBay. ๐ I’m not opposed to spending maybe up to $100, but I can’t justify $200. If people come across more of them, I really, really want one- it would mean a lot. I’d prefer one with the lighter hair, and not the red/orange hair. I’m hoping if I wait around and keep an eye out, there will be one for less.

Hi, I just happened to find a Bah Koo new in box with the book, original packaging is intact. A little shelf wear, but the contents are in great condition… no fading or anything. I could only find one result on eBay for $599 so I’m not sure how much these are really worth. If anyone is looking for a Bah Koo and wants to email me an offer, that would be great. ๐

I remember when I was younger, my grandma died in my bed. At the time, we didn’t have the money to buy a new bed. Something about knowing she died on my bed, and I was sleeping there, made me think a lot of bad things. I told my grandma, and she found Bah Koo and the book for me. Bah Koo was so important to me, until I lent it to a girlfriend that I thought was my friend, took him and never gave him back and it’s been 16 years. I wanted to pass it down to my son, but since that’s not possible… Does anyone know how, where, or who I have to contact to attempt to get an old, dear friend. C:
Thank you,
Kate B.

I have an orginal bah koo with the book. Never used but she did take him out of the box. My wife’s friend gave it to us for our son, however we are willing to sell it since I am not familiar with the story. Please make an offer if you are interested, I can provide pictures and more info on how we got it by request.
