Margot is still looking for this lamb.
When I was a small child in the mid-late 50’s I received a stuffed lamb. The sheep I lost was stuffed with straw and was VERY realistic. The head for example had almost a taxidermy level of realism. The coat was actually real lamb’s skin with a longish, curly, silky look/feel ; just like an woman’s winter coat. The lamb measured approximately 2′ x 3′ and made a “baa” sound when turned upside down. It was made about 50 years ago. The coat on the lamb on eBay is not or does not look like the real thing. I think it might have come from Germany.
I know it is not a Steiff, because I collect Steiff. I don’t have any pictures. It was not plushy…it was stiff stuffing, but it was not like a Steiff either…it was all real lambskin..no wool. It was not the size of an old Steiff. It was bigger than the small ones and not as big as the newer big ones. As I recall it was about 24″ x 24″ standing…it was not jointed per se, with beautiful green glass eyes. It was a wonderful thing.
Years later my niece’s dog chewed it up. I have been looking ever since for another one. I have tried eBay and Google. Perhaps someone here knows of one.
