The animated cartoon "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was first shown on television in 1964. Rudolph and his elf friend, Hermy, visit the Island of Misfit Toys during their travels, a sanctuary for defected and unwanted toys. In the revised version of the cartoon, Santa comes to the island on Christmas Eve to pick up all the Misfits to deliver them to children who will enjoy them just as they are.
