It’s amazing to me how such simple things can bring memories flooding back.
The other day, I took some time to clean up two Magic Nursery dolls to get them ready to sell. (One is on eBay now, and the other one will be soon.)
They were both pretty grungy, and the one with long hair had a tangled mess. Both were in very good condition, otherwise, and we found them for a price that made it worthwhile to try to clean them up.Well, they don’t look like the same dollies today, all cleaned up and freshly combed, so my efforts were certainly worth it.
What always surprises me is how I feel when I’m cleaning and dressing a doll. I find myself cradling and caressing them, just the way I would have when I was a child. I get this fleeting glimpse of that long ago time when they were so real to me. I love that feeling. I wish I could capture it for longer periods of time, but I’m thankful for re-living even a brief moment of childhood’s wonder.
Magic Nursey dolls came out after I was grown and had children of my own, but they help me remember the magic of all childhood dolls.
