There’s a box neatly tucked away in our basement, full of tiny baby clothes, little booties, a blanket or two, and a few baby toys. There’s another box with several dolls and stuffed animals from the toddler years packed away. I would imagine many homes have a similar cache of memories.
Thinking of all the folks devastated by Katrina, who have lost all their family photos and such family treasures as this box of baby memories, makes me very sad. Insurance can replace furniture, but nothing can replace these priceless objects.
We have a fireproof box for important financial and legal papers, but I’m seriously thinking about getting another one for photos and other irreplacables. It still wouldn’t be big enough for keeping more than a doll or stuffed animal or two, plus family photos I wouldn’t want to lose, but it would be better than nothing.
