I’m trying to find a stuffed tiger, manufactured around 1958, by DAKIN, I think. It had green and black eyes and was stuffed with cotton and straw. It had a sewn nose that was thread, and it was about 9-11 inches long.
I was 2 years old and my uncle George Schaffer gave me 2 toys for Christmas. One was Tigey, and one was a big red ball. My mother and father who are now both deceased, said I went into Uncle George’s house and picked up the wrapped gift and said, “I know what this is – its a big red ball!” and that when I opened Tigey I was in love.
I kept that tiger as my most prized possession for over 30 years, even taking it with me to college. I adored it. You see I was being abused as a child from age 3 1/2 and Tigey was my only friend. I know this sounds silly to still be so in love with a stuffed animal, but it was so much more. It was a symbol that someone loved me.
When I lost him in an abusive relationship. I also lost all my pictures of me as a child, my kids and my parents and grandparents.
Thanks so much for listening.
