I’m looking for a toy that was manufactured sometime between 1963-1969.
To the best of my recollection it was about 8-10″ tall, and the outer covering was brown fuzzy fabric. The eyes and beak moved, and I think it went forwards and backwards. There were two red buttons on the top-front of the battery pack that controlled the actions. I believe that she got it from Sears, but I’m not positive about that.
When I was about 1 (1967ish), my Grandmother bought me the owl. One of the first words I spoke was whoo-whoo, because I was fascinated by the old Red Owl grocery store logos at the time (it’s where we shopped). At any rate I never parted company with the owl. It got so bad that my parents ended up cutting the wire and battery box off the toy because they were worried I’d strangle myself as I slept with it every night. I was five or six when it finally fell apart. My Grandmother looked for a replacement for a long time. It got to be kind of a running (but serious) joke between us. She’d ask what I wanted for Christmas and I always said the Owl. That went on until I was 15 or 16…
And that’s it really; undoubtedly the best and most loved toy I ever had.
I’ve searched all kinds of old catalogs, websites etc., but have been unable to locate this item. Any help identifying/finding this item greatly appreciated.
Regards-
Neil
