Dear Rosemary,

Attached is a photo of the Manhattan Toy know as “Herberts”. His item number is 116990. I am told by Manhattan Toy that they most likely sold off their stock to Home Goods when they discontinued this animal in 2007 (the year my son was born and given this wondrous item as a gift.)

As for why I am looking for it, the truth is that I was quite sick for about 4 months and in the ICU at a local hospital, unable to see my boys, now 22 months and 8 months old. I very nearly did not come home to them at all.

Anything I can do to make their worlds a bit safer and more comfortable is what I aim to do these days, and my son’s elephant is simply irreplaceable in that sense. He sleeps with him, asks for him, chews on him, absolutely treasures him. I am desperate to find another one for the days that inevitably will come when Mr. Elephant has had one too many washings, or simply is accidentally lost.

Please help if you can…
