FOUND – 1985 DAKIN TATTERED TEDDY Large TAN BEAR with PATCHES
I’m looking for a DAKIN 1985 large tan bear with orange and brown calico print ears and paws. He had a heart patched on his tummy with TATTERED TEDDY written on the patch and a plaid ribbon around its neck in green, orange, and white that coordinated with the other patches.
Back in 1986, my high school sweetheart (who is now an exec at NASA but, unfortunately, is married to someone else) gave me this adorable Dakin beige Tattered Teddy. It was so cute. I brought it to college with me and out into the ’real world’ when I finished grad school. In 1997, my apartment was burglarized and vandalized by my then ex-boyfriend (the courts said the evidence was ’circumstantial’, however, and he got away with the crime). My Tattered Teddy was knifed in the back and rear end.
When I came home and found all of the damage, I noticed that my teddy bear had a strange lean to it, and when I turned it over and saw the filling coming out of the back and rear, I was aghast. Who would knife a teddy bear? Only a complete sicko. It’s a good thing I hadn’t been home.
The Nashua, New Hampshire police department confiscated it as evidence. I have been trying to replace that bear for years, but all I remembered about it was its color, length, and that it had patches that said Tattered Teddy sewn onto its belly. I really, really would like to replace this bear, and I have been having a heck of a time trying to find it.
Please contact me if you find one.
Thanks,
Sabra

I didn’t realize there was a whole series of these. I’ve sent your links to Sabra, so we’ll see if she likes one of these as a substitute.
Hi, it’s me, Sabra, who posted the request to find the Dakin Tattered Teddy bear. I just wanted to thank you for the service you have, and I wanted to thank the kind people who tried to locate another bear like the one I used to own. Like me, no one else was able to find the one I had, although I found others in the series. Tonight, I couldn’t believe it — I searched on Ebay, and for the first time ever, I found another one! After checking the condition with the seller, I bought it. So, while I can never replace the high school sweetheart I loved who gave me the bear, or be rid of the bad memories of finding it destroyed years later, I can have a second chance at enjoying a new bear and making new memories by entertaining my son and my niece with it. Since my bear has been replaced, please remove my original posting from your site, unless you want to keep it to give hope to those who are still seeking specific stuffed animals. In the future, I look forward to helping others, via your site, to locate the stuffed animals they want to replace.
