Searching – 80s Upright Leopard or Cheetah Cheek Fur or Beard PRIORITY
I’m looking for a stuffed Leopard/Cheetah/Jaguar/Bobcat doll, probably about a foot or over in size, with dark browns and blacks for the spots. It was an overall dark brown color with little white tuffs on his cheeks I believe? or possibly his little beard. He’s not bent over like a cat, but he is upright, like a teddy bear would be. He’s slim, with no puffy belly, and has plastic whiskers, and pretty dark eyes, and a nice long tail.
He’s possibly a GUND, or RUSS, or DAKIN. The store had all kinds of toys, so it’s possibly a foreign maker. It was purchased from a small toy store in Temecula, CA in the 80’s. Probably between 83-88, but I’m guessing closer to the 84ish range though.
My “Bob” (I thought he was a bobcat when I was little, but obviously not as they have no tails) was my world. I had a very, very, very rough childhood. I spent a lot of time under bedsheets cuddling and crying with him during the nights. He was with me through everything, climbing trees, and building pillow forts. He was with me, even through my childhood injuries, falling out of a wagon and going to the ER with a cracked head eek! He was supposed to be with me for life.
I recently discovered that in a spiteful move by my father, my box of all my cherished keepsakes was thrown away. I have a 3 year old daughter now, and I wanted her to inherit him. Bob was never ever ever to be thrown or given away. If my daughter didn’t want him, he was to stay with me forever.
I literally cannot choke back the tears I feel at the loss of him. I have no pictures of me with him, because all those were thrown away as well, and I unfortunately have never seen another.
I wouldn’t even know what to do if someone could help me find him again, or a replacement.
Thanks,
Katie

Although these aren’t him, I was curious how much Bob resembled these vintage leopard and cheetah plushies I found:

Id say he looks more like ebay item# 301013146960. As Im remembering I think his face was mostly dark, I dont think his cheeks were white, I think just his chin area. Also he had more of a fur to him, not like the velour on most of these. He was darker than this guy too. His coloring looks a lot more like this guy ebay item# 321250041405. I’m trying to see if my brother has some pictures still, cause I know I had him with me all the time. Hopefully Ill be able to post a pic of him soon.

Well say, if I may ask, please, was Bob all brown or did he have a lighter colored belly, and about how big was he?

Kathy “Bob” was all dark browns and his belly was the same spotted dark color. I want to say hes about a foot in length. Wow Lesanne that does seem very similar. Maybe Im wrong, maybe he did have white cheeks and his chin was dark like yours appears. I am remembering now that he had dark feet just like the one in your painting. I would love to see an actual picture of him.
