can you tell what it is stuffed with? Are the eyes metal or plastic? Are they button eyes? Does the nose look original or retouched? Red vest or red shirt? thanks for the info

  2. Tami,

Thank you so much for your help, and sorry for the delayed reply. To answer some of your questions…the eyes are black plastic and the nose appears to be felt. As to the stuffing, I’m not sure if it is original or not, but it seems like it is a typical cotton stuffing. I wish I knew what the original shirt, looked like, but according to her mother it was a red vest?

I checked out the ebay listings ou posted, and thank you very much for that. Unfortunately, these are close, but not the actual doll. The second one you posted “170058952485” is very similar to her bear, except I don’t think hers was originally that plush. And not to mention, one of the five I’ve already purchased was like that 🙁

I’m starting to wonder if I will ever find this bear???

Thank you again, so much for your help!

    Regards, J.J.

From what I see, your Pooh is filled with kapok (what you refer to cotton stuffing) and foam clippings. These combination are widely used for bears made between 60s-70s. The fabric used is tight weaved cotton which makes me think that the plush might originally be mohair (angora goat hair). Synthetic plush tend to use cheaper loose fabric backing. Hope this helps.

I didn’t mean to rule out old school cotton plush since they also use similar backing. Watch the eyes, nose, length of fur, body type of this one on eBay# 110284369618. That label on hip is used until the 70s. I believe the one you’re looking for is the smaller version of this.

  5. Anastasia,

Thank you so much for your help! As I’m sure you can see I’m really not much of a pro when it comes to vintage stuffed animals… I think that you are definitely correct about the ebay posting: “110284369618” Unfortunately it just isn’t the right size 🙁 What I’ve noticed about most of the pooh bears I’ve bought and seen is that they are much wider than my fiancés and the legs seem to be different. This ebay posting is one of the only ones I’ve seen that has the same body style….

I’ve had a tough time trying to figure out what the fabric is since it is so worn down. Like I said before, I’m certainly not a pro, so excuse my naivety here…but isn’t mohair really soft? Her doll, and maybe just because it is so worn out, really isn’t soft at all…. Is that what happens to mohair that gets worn out?

Thank you again so much for your help….I’m really starting to think that I won’t find this in time for Christmas….lucky for me….my fiancés birthday is in September…so I will have plenty of time to continue the search 🙂

    Thanks again! J.J.

Your Pooh is made of synthetic material, not mohair. Mohair is only soft when it’s brand new and it feels like human hair after a crew cut, shiny too. If it’s worn out, you will see bald patches on the fabric backing, similar to your Pooh’s condition. The larger Pooh is more common than the small ones but I’m sure someone has it, I’ll keep an eye on it too. Your Pooh when new could be around 14 inches long.

Did your fiance or her mom ever recalled the bear talking? I just found out today that they made a pull string version of the Sears Gund Pooh Bear. It’s on eBay# 360011652633. I’m not sure about the size on this one, the seller did not mention it in the listing.

  8. Kristen,

Unfortunately I don’t think that is the one, I’ve seen it on ebay a few times 🙁

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!

Oh and I will say…my girlfriend, eventhough I didn’t get the right Pooh for her for Christmas, did love the fact that she had about 6 boxes to open up of all different Poohs…I guess sometimes its the thought that matters most! Though I’m not giving up yet!

    Thanks again, J.J.

  9. Anastasia,

No I don't believe her pooh ever had a pull string…actually, just when home visiting I saw a couple old pictures of the doll and I think I have found something similar to it on ebay, but unfortunately the one on ebay was in poor condition….as I'm sure you understand, I don't want to get her a dirty old doll, to replace the already dirty old doll 🙂

Here is the link to the listing, that I think is the right one…only the wrong condition..

Thanks again…I really appreciate you helping me try to find this!

    Happy Holidays!

That’s him, though 16 inches seems a bit big still. I’m glad you’re on the right track and happy to hear that your fiance is enjoying the look-alikes, who wouldn’t after all you’ve been through? At least now you know what to look for. Happy bear hunting =).

  11. Anastasia,

Thank you for your continued help…you know it is funny about those look alikes….I told my fiance when she started opening onee after the other that, she should keep her favorites and then we should give the rest to Toys for Tots…..well wouldn’t you figure…she wants to keep them all! 🙂 I just ordered a couple more….so I figure sooner or later I’m going to get the right one. I keep getting close, but I’m just not getting the right side.

Thanks again for all your help,

Thank you for that link….I think that bear is too, big, but it really looks a lot like what I would imagine my fiances did when new….per typical procedure…I’ll be buying it to find out for sure….gosh with all these bears I’m going to have to build her a bigger house now to hold them all..lol…

    Thank you so much,
